This distant education course is offered by Natioanl Taiwan University along with Kyoto University from Japan in a real-time conference type. This course will be held as lecture/discussion courses and led by Professors Kunio Takeyasu and Shige H. Yoshimura in Kyoto University in Japan as well as Professors Fon-Jou Hsieh, Hsinyu Lee, Tang- Long Shen, Men-Chi Chang, Nai-Chun Lin, Wen-Sung Lai, Tsai-Kun Li, Jeff Lee, and Chun-Che Chang in National Taiwan University in Taiwan .
The main objective of this course is to understand life on the molecular and cellular level. Special emphasis is placed on preparing students the ability to comprehend the biological processes and the fundamentals of structural and functional genetics. The course is organized into presentations and discussions, and utilizes the latest communication technology to connect live with Kyoto University to bring together the two schools in a synergetic learning environment. The course is conducted in English.
Presentation content includes: 1. fundamental concepts and logics in biology; 2. biological methods; 3. discovery of cellular structure and function, nucleus, and the central dogma; 4. biological technology. Furthermore, there will also be discussions and presentations on research articles in regard to molecular and cell biology.
During this semester, professor and students from Kyoto University (Japan) will visit NTU for a combined class and scholar exchange.
